- New HomePod model is coming by the end of this year
A new HomePod model is coming as early as this year or early next year according to a new report from Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo. Kuo claims that there might not be that much innovation in hardware design but still hat made it clear whether or not the speaker will be an updated to the HomePod mini lineup or will be a replacement to the now discontinued HomePod. He also claims that Apple is still trying to figure out how to succeed in the smart home speaker business since they’ve fallen behind Amazon and Google who have more popular smart home assistant speakers.

Apple’s rumored 27-inch mini-LED display won’t launch this summer as expected, according to a new report from Apple display analyst Ross Young. Young now claims that the rumored display from Apple is set to launch in October. This is due to the recent COVID-19 surge in China which has caused many lockdowns including at Quanta in Shanghai where the product is supposed to be manufactured. Young also claims that Apple is relocating the production facility and will have the display manufactured at another factory. The new relocations has caused Apple to cancel their scheduled launch of the display in June.

- Apple’s board receives a demo of new AR/VR headset as it nears completion

Apple has been working on this headset for years now and has been trying to release the headset to the public since 2019, but multiple factors prevented that from happening and delayed the product even further. Some of the issues include problems with the chips overheating and also problems with cameras and the software for the device. The Apple AR/VR headset will support both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Design wise the headset will have a curved visor in the front and will have a strap similar to the Apple Watch to strap it to your head. Rumors also suggest that the headset could feature 15 cameras as well as 4K micro-OLED displays. It will be powered by two processors that are equivalent to the Apple M-series chips for the Mac. There will also be many other features. The software it will use is called realityOS and was discovered by an Apple app developer a couple of months ago. Gurman expects the new headset to launch as early as the end of this year, but he also claims that the product will be available to the market sometime in 2023. The Apple AR/VR headset will be a major new product category from Apple since the release of the Apple Watch back in 2015. It is also expected to cost around $3,000, and rumors suggested that Apple doesn’t expect customers to buy it.

Kuo also gave an update on his response to his previous rumor about the iPhone 15 ditching the lightning port for USB-C. He claims that Apple will most likely switch to USB-C instead of going completely port-less since there are current limitations to wireless technology which will make the transition to a port-less iPhone difficult. With more Apple products ditching the lightning port in favor of a USB-C port, it’s possible that the iconic lightning port will get discontinued in a couple of years.
