WhatsApp Unveils Expanded Text Styling Tools for Improved Messaging

WhatsApp has rolled out an update introducing four new text formatting options aimed at enhancing message organization and clarity for users. In addition to the existing bold, italics, and monospace features, the app now includes bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code. These additions are available across iOS, Android, Mac, and web platforms.

According to WhatsApp, these text formatting options are designed to streamline communication, particularly in group chats, by saving time and improving message effectiveness.

To utilize the new formatting features:

  • Create bulleted lists by typing the "-" symbol followed by a space.

  • Generate numbered lists by typing digits followed by a period and space.

  • Insert block quotes using the ">" symbol followed by a space.

  • Apply inline code by wrapping text with the "`" symbol.

For those unfamiliar with the original text formatting options in WhatsApp, the shortcuts remain the same:

  • Bold: Wrap text with "*" symbol.

  • Italics: Wrap text with "_" symbol.

  • Strikethrough: Wrap text with "~" symbol.

  • Monospace: Wrap text with "` ` ` " symbol.
