In the aftermath of a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake striking Taiwan's eastern coast, TSMC, a key supplier of chips for Apple, has swiftly managed to restore the majority of its operations.
According to statements provided to Bloomberg, TSMC has confirmed that more than 80% of its chip production lines are now operational as of Thursday. Remarkably, critical equipment has reportedly remained unscathed by the quake.
TrendForce, a Taiwanese research firm, further indicated that TSMC's advanced chip factories, including those producing 3nm, 4nm, and 5nm chips, resumed operations at over 90% capacity within hours of the earthquake, suggesting minimal impact on Apple chip production.
However, amidst this positive news, the earthquake's toll on Taiwan remains significant, with reports citing at least 10 fatalities and over 1,000 injuries, underscoring the human cost of the natural disaster.
