Rivian has launched the latest versions of its R1S SUV and R1T pickup, packed with new technological advancements, including seamless integration with Apple's Car Keys feature. This innovation allows users to unlock their vehicles effortlessly using their iPhone or Apple Watch.
The Car Keys feature utilizes the NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in iPhones and Apple Watches, enabling a digital car key to be stored in the Wallet app. Users can unlock their vehicle by simply bringing their device close to the car's NFC reader, and a quick tap on the door handle initiates the unlocking process. For swift access, Apple's Express Mode lets users bypass Face ID authentication, making the process even quicker.
Previously, Rivian vehicles could be unlocked via the Rivian app, which detected the user's proximity to the car. However, this method often lacked the efficiency and precision of the new Car Keys feature. To enhance this functionality, Rivian has integrated Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology into the new models, offering more accurate and reliable access.
The updated R1S and R1T not only support unlocking and starting with Car Keys but also allow digital key sharing with family and friends. This makes it easier than ever to grant vehicle access to others.
Beyond Car Keys, the new Rivian models feature Connect+, a robust streaming service that includes access to over 3,000 apps, such as various music services. Rivian has worked closely with Apple to ensure deep integration of Apple Music within the Connect+ platform. This collaboration provides users with access to Apple Music’s vast catalog of over 100 million songs, and Rivian’s premium audio system supports Apple Music Spatial Audio for an immersive listening experience.
These updates underscore Rivian's dedication to integrating state-of-the-art technology into their vehicles, enhancing the driving experience for their customers.
