OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Jony Ive are allegedly in talks to develop new AI hardware

According to a recent report by The Information, former Apple design chief Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are reportedly in discussions to create a new AI hardware device.

They have reportedly consulted with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son about the concept, though Son's ongoing involvement remains uncertain.

Ever since Ive left Apple, he has been focused on working with clients from his own design studio called LoveFrom. The specifics of this mysterious device are still under wraps, but the duo, who share a friendship, is exploring the possibilities of revolutionary AI-oriented hardware.

Sam Altman, known for his substantial investment in the consumer hardware startup Humane, co-founded by former Apple employees Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, is a driving force behind this endeavor. Humane aims to develop a unique screenless wearable device that responds to voice commands and gestures, capable of projecting information onto nearby surfaces. The ultimate goal is to integrate OpenAI's cutting-edge technology into this innovative device.

OpenAI's ChatGPT has been making significant waves in the tech industry since its public launch less than a year ago. OpenAI's annual revenue has surged past $1 billion, largely fueled by ChatGPT subscriptions and paid access to the latest GPT-4 incarnation.

In a noteworthy move, OpenAI introduced an official ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad users in May 2023, solidifying its presence in the AI-powered chatbot landscape.
