Apple is set to launch its latest MacBook Pro models featuring the M4 chip in the last quarter of 2024, according to insights from display analyst Ross Young. Young revealed that shipments for the panels of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are planned for the third quarter of 2024, hinting at an end-of-year release.

The upcoming lineup will see the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the standard M4 chip, while the more advanced 14-inch and 16-inch models will feature the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. The Mac mini will also be refreshed with M4 and M4 Pro variants. However, updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro with M4 chips are slated for 2025. The update schedule for the iMac remains unclear.

The M4 chip, based on an enhanced 3-nanometer architecture, follows Apple's initial use of this technology in the M3 series. Early benchmarks from Geekbench 6 suggest that the M4 chip delivers up to 25 percent better multi-core performance compared to the M3 chip, indicating notable performance boosts for the M4 Pro and M4 Max as well.

Apart from integrating the M4 chips, the new MacBook Pro models are not expected to undergo significant feature changes. While Apple is working on OLED display technology, an OLED MacBook Pro is not expected to hit the market until at least 2026.
