Following a new law passed by EU regulators, Apple had to comply and make USB-C available on the iPhone for a universal port.
With the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, Apple has finally ditched its own port in favor of USB-C.
Apple has also updated products like the AirPods Pro charging case and wired EarPods to adapt to USB-C.
Despite the inclusion of USB-C, iPhone 15 data transfer speeds over cable remains the same as with Lighting. iPhone 15 Pro on the other side supports USB 3 data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps over cable.
Unlike the USB-C port on iPad Pro, the USB-C port on iPhone 15 Pro does not support Thunderbolt which would typically support speeds of up to 40 Gbps.
