The new 10th generation iPad only supports the 1st generation Apple Pencil due to not having a magnetic charging side like the other iPad models.
Apple released a new adapter which allows the Apple Pencil that has a lightning port to be charged with the iPad which now features a USB-C port.
The adapter is available for $9 and will be available in the box with new 1st generation Apple Pencils.
