Microsoft confirms its working on an affordable Xbox game streaming device codenamed “Keystone”

Microsoft has been working on a new Xbox game steaming device for a while now but according to a new report from Windows Central, they’re more focused on developing the device into something else now.

Here’s what a Microsoft spokesperson said about the new device:

“Our vision for Xbox Cloud Gaming is unwavering, our goal is to enable people to play the games they want, on the devices they want, anywhere they want. As announced last year, we’ve been working on a game-streaming device, codename Keystone, that could be connected to any TV or monitor without the need for a console," a Microsoft spokesperson stated.”

"As part of any technical journey, we are constantly evaluating our efforts, reviewing our learnings, and ensuring we are bringing value to our customers. We have made the decision to pivot away from the current iteration of the Keystone device. We will take our learnings and refocus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to deliver Xbox Cloud Gaming to more players around the world in the future.”

Microsoft's plans for the new device is to make it more affordable and easier for people to stream games from the device onto their TV without a need for a gaming console like the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series X consoles which were released back in November 2020.

Microsoft is also developing an Xbox app, which was reported by The Verge. The app is supposed to be installed onto your smart TV and will allow users to play games directly from their TV. The streaming service will reportedly be available on Samsung smart TV’s in a couple of months.
