Meta, just had their Connect 2023 event and announced the Quest 3 mixed reality headset after debuting it in June, right before Apple's Vision Pro announcement at WWDC 2023.
The standout feature of the Meta Quest 3 is its full-color passthrough capability, seamlessly blending augmented reality elements into your physical surroundings. It's also the first consumer device powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, promising a performance boost of twice that of its predecessor, the Quest 2. Expect to be immersed in higher resolution visuals with an expanded depth of field, while the refresh rate remains a crisp 90Hz.
Comfort gets a boost too, with improved accommodation for glasses wearers and a nifty dial for adjusting inter-pupillary distance. The Quest controllers have a new design, featuring haptic feedback and a departure from tracking rings, thanks to advanced sensors taking over tracking duties.
But it's not just about gaming; the Quest 3 is expanding its horizons. In December, it will welcome Xbox Cloud Gaming support, making it a versatile gaming platform. Additionally, you can now get some work done in the virtual world, as Microsoft 365 apps are set to land on the Quest by year-end. And soon, you'll even be able to access Windows through these headsets.
Pre-orders for the Meta Quest 3 are currently live, starting at $499 for the 128GB version and $649 for the 256GB variant. Opting for the 512GB model not only grants you ample storage but also a six-month trial of Meta Quest+.
As a limited-time bonus, both versions come bundled with Asgard's Wrath 2. Meta Quest 3 will be available on October 10.
