Is it worth to upgrade to the new 2022 iPad Pro? Here are our thoughts

The new 2022 iPad Pro models are now available in stores and the big question is if you should upgrade and here are our thoughts on who should upgrade and if it's worth the price to upgrade.

The last release of the iPad Pro was back in April 2021 where the iPad Pro was packed with many new features including the M1 chip, 5G, and a mini-LED display.

If you already have the 2021 iPad Pro it is not worth the upgrade since you already have many of the key features and will have access to the latest software updates for many years. The only key difference is the new M2 chip which improves the iPad Pro's performance by 15% and with a new Media Engine, iPad Pro can now shoot ProRes video.

There's also a new Apple Pencil Hover feature which allows users to preview their marks on a sketch before making it. The ipad will also detect Apple Pencil 12mm above the display.

Who should upgrade?

We think users with the 2018 iPad Pro or an earlier model might want to consider upgrading to the new 2022 iPad Pro since the upgrade will be significant compared to users who have the 2020 iPad Pro and later.

Users who also want the capabilities of the iPad Pro and want to use it for a lot of tasks that require high performance and the power of the M2 chip should also consider. For users who will use their iPad's for school or notes, and tasks that don't require a lot of power from the iPad might want to consider the new 2022 iPad or the iPad Air model.

Our final thoughts

The 2022 iPad Pro is a very minor upgrade from its predecessor and is really only for a niche market of consumers who are looking for something really powerful. The 2022 iPad Pro is available for a starting price of $799 for the 11-inch model and $1099 for the 12.9-inch model.
