iPhone SE 3 Review: new mighty phone with old design

The new third generation iPhone SE is the newest edition to Apple's iPhone lineup and with its $429 price tag it raises the question "Is it worth the price Apple is selling it for?". Some noticeable differences with the iPhone SE 3 is that it has the same chassis as the iPhone 8 which makes it outdated from the rest of the iPhones in Apple's lineup.

Design

The small form factor of the iPhone SE 3 makes the phone more convenient for those who are interested in using smaller phones but will make it harder to access content to those who aren't used to the small screen size. The display is a 4.7 LCD display and the iPhone SE 3 has the home button at the bottom with Touch ID.

Cameras

The rear camera lens on the iPhone SE 3 has support for Deep Fusion and Smart HDR 4, but overall everything is mostly similar to the iPhone SE 2 which was released back in 2020.

With Deep Fusion, the iPhone SE 3 can capture high quality photos with increased detail and reduced noise in the photos. Deep Fusion takes multiple photos and combines them together to create the perfect image type.

On the other hand Smart HDR 4 automatically adjust the background, color, contrast, and noise on a photo.

The iPhone SE 3 doesn't feature Night Mode like other iPhones in Apple's lineup. Night Mode allows users to take better photos in low light conditions.

The front facing camera on the iPhone SE 3 is also the same 7MP front facing camera from the iPhone SE 2.

Support for 5G

A big update to the iPhone SE 3 is its support for 5G like the rest of the iPhones in Apple's lineup. However, the iPhone SE 3 doesn't support mmWave 5G like Apple's other iPhones. It only has support for lower band spectrums of 5G.

New A15 Bionic Chip

The iPhone SE 3 also surprisingly has the new A15 Bionic Chip from Apple which is also available on the iPhone 13 models. The A15 has a 6-core CPU with 4 high efficiency cores and 2 performance cores. The new chip is more efficient than ever and allows the iPhone SE 3 to have better battery life.

Battery Life

With the addition of the A15 chip, iPhone SE 3 has seen improvements to its battery life with 2 additional hours of video playback.

Final thoughts

Although the iPhone SE 3 is cheaper than the rest of the iPhones in Apple's lineup for a retail price of $429, we still recommend that you spend the extra money to buy an iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 if you're not interested in buying the latest flagships from Apple. The iPhone SE 3 lacks features that are available on cheaper smartphones and still has an outdated design with the home button. It's also worth to note that the iPhone SE 3 doesn't have support for MagSafe. It also only supports lower band 5G spectrums and has the same camera as the previous generation iPhone SE with some of the main features missing. But if you're someone who isn't interested in the topics listed above and just want a phone that will do the basic tasks, then the $429 iPhone SE 3 is a great choice for you.
