Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to make a leap forward in video recording capabilities, introducing 4K video recording at up to 120 frames per second, according to a new report from 9to5Mac.
This upgrade will mark a significant improvement over the iPhone 15 series, which is limited to 4K recording at 60 frames per second. The higher frame rate will likely appeal to content creators and videographers, offering smoother, more detailed footage, especially for action shots or slow-motion videos.
Beyond the enhanced 4K capabilities, Apple has reportedly been experimenting with 8K video recording for the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, it's uncertain whether this feature will be available at launch. It's speculated that Apple may reserve the introduction of 8K video for future models, particularly with rumors of a 48-megapixel Telephoto camera arriving with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Another noteworthy enhancement could be a long-awaited improvement to the iPhone's Camera app: the ability to pause and resume video recording within a single session. This feature, a staple in many professional video setups, would add a layer of convenience for users who want more control during filming without the need to create multiple clips.
In addition to video upgrades, reports have hinted at other new camera functionalities, including support for the JPEG-XL image format, which offers higher compression without losing image quality.
Apple is set to reveal the iPhone 16 series at its event on Monday, where these potential features—alongside other innovations—will be officially unveiled.
