iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max was released last Friday and we got to get our hands on them and test it out this entire week and here are our thoughts on Apple's latest flagship phones.
Dynamic Island
Let's start off with the brand new feature called Dynamic Island which replaces the old notch and has a pill shaped design. It hides the Face ID sensor and front facing camera and can be used for many things like displaying phone calls, music, notifications, and more. It is probably the coolest feature on the Pro model iPhone's this year and really makes the iPhone stand out from its competitors.
We think that as soon as more apps get access to the Dynamic Island it will become more useful.
Always-On Display
The next big feature that came to the iPhone 14 Pro lineup is the Always-On Display, while this has been on Android phones for a while now and is nothing new, Apple takes a different approach to it. Instead of completely turning off the display and only displaying the time and battery percentage on a black screen, Apple dims the Lock Screen so it still shows your wallpaper and notifications.
We found ourselves turning it off since it wasn't what we expected from Apple, but there could be future software updates that can probably make the display completely black.
Camera
The iPhone 14 Pro has a new 48-Megapixel camera which is a big upgrade from the iPhone 13 Pro's 12-Megapixel camera, but even with the upgrade, the difference in the two was barely noticeable and it wasn't drastically different from the iPhone 13 Pro models.
Battery Life
In comparison to the iPhone 13 Pro there wasn't a significant upgrade in battery life on the new iPhone 14 models.
eSIM
This year Apple decided to remove the SIM card tray on all their iPhone 14 models in the US. Though eSIM has been on the iPhone since 2018, there were many difficulties with iPhone users trying to activate on their phone's but the eSIM experience worked flawlessly for us and we didn't have any issues with activating it. The setup process was very smooth with a very detailed interface.
Crash Detection
Crash Detection is a new safety feature that is available on the iPhone 14 models and it can detect if you've got into a car crash and call emergency services if you're unresponsive.
Colors
The iPhone 14 Pro models are available in Purple, Space Black, Silver, and Gold color options. We tested all of them and think that Space Black is the best option this year.
