Recent reports from Bloomberg paint a sobering picture of Apple's once-buzzworthy Vision Pro headset, which captivated crowds just two months ago but now struggles to maintain momentum.
According to Bloomberg, several Apple stores are witnessing sluggish sales, with some outlets barely moving a handful of Vision Pros in an entire week. This stands in stark contrast to the frenzy that ensued during the headset's January pre-order weekend, where it flew off the shelves with 180,000 units sold. Interest in demo sessions has also dwindled significantly since the initial launch, with many scheduled appointments now going unfulfilled.
Gone are the days of eager Apple fans queuing up outside stores, eager to immerse themselves in the world of spatial computing. Despite this downturn, Apple continues to prominently feature the Vision Pro on its website, perhaps in a bid to reignite interest.
However, it seems that early adopters of the Vision Pro are finding themselves disillusioned. Users complain about lament issues such as discomfort, a sparse selection of compatible apps, and a feeling of disconnect when using the device in public settings.
Analysts had predicted that the initial hype surrounding the Vision Pro would eventually fade, with the headset settling into a niche market until a more accessible version emerged. Now, it appears those forecasts are becoming reality as the Vision Pro fades into obscurity.
In response to user feedback, Apple has introduced spatial personas and a Dual Loop Band headset strap aimed at enhancing the user experience. However, these efforts may not be enough to salvage the device's dwindling appeal.
Furthermore, the absence of popular apps like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube tailored for the Vision Pro ecosystem may have contributed to its rapid fall from grace shortly after its launch.
