If Apple Vision Pro owners forget their passcode, they face the inconvenience of having to visit an Apple Store location for a reset, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Unlike other Apple devices, there is no on-device method to reset a forgotten passcode for the Vision Pro.
During setup, the Vision Pro prompts users to input a six-digit passcode, which can be customized for length. While Optic ID, a new biometric way to unlock the device similar to Face ID or Touch ID, offers an alternative, a passcode is still necessary after a restart and in specific situations.
Customers who forget their passcodes get informed by Apple that a fix requires a visit to a retail store or shipping the headset to Apple if no nearby store is available. Similar to iOS devices, entering an incorrect passcode multiple times results in device disablement, with a waiting period before another attempt. To remove the passcode, all content on the Vision Pro must be erased.
While iPhones and iPads can be erased at home with a Mac or PC, the Vision Pro lacks this capability. The Apple Watch, though unable to connect to a Mac or PC, can be reset on the device itself or via a connected iPhone.
Although an erase content setting exists on the Vision Pro, entering reset mode through button combinations is not possible. The only method for erasing the Vision Pro is through the Settings app.
For those with the $300 Developer Strap, wiping the device from a Mac might be an option, but this accessory is exclusive to registered developers in the United States, limiting accessibility for most users.
