Apple is set to upgrade the storage options for its upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models, moving away from the 128GB base model to start at 256GB for both. This shift marks the first time Apple will eliminate the 128GB option for its smaller Pro model, a strategy hinted at by TrendForce in a recent analysis.
The move to larger base storage comes as Apple plans to incorporate more advanced features into the iPhone 16 Pro models, including a sophisticated tetraprism periscope lens that previously featured only in the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max. This upgrade necessitates higher storage capacities to accommodate the increased data usage from enhanced camera capabilities and other resource-intensive applications.
Apple’s decision reflects changing consumer demands, as users increasingly store large volumes of high-definition media and engage with complex applications that require substantial storage space. This adjustment not only meets customer needs but also helps Apple streamline its offerings as it prepares for the introduction of larger display sizes in the iPhone 16 series, expected to be revealed next week with the launch event themed "It's Glowtime."
The new iPhone models, rumored to feature the largest displays yet, will likely necessitate additional internal space, which could also support enhanced battery life and other internal upgrades.
Apple is expetced to announce the new iPhone 16 models alongside other new products like the new Apple Watch models and iPad mini on Monday September 9th.
