According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has finally showed off their new product category to members of Apple’s board of directors last week.
Apple has been working on this headset for years now and has been trying to release the headset to the public since 2019, but multiple factors prevented that from happening and delayed the product even further. Some of the issues include problems with the chips overheating and also problems with cameras and the software for the device.
The Apple AR/VR headset will support both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Design wise the headset will have a curved visor in the front and will have a strap similar to the Apple Watch to strap it to your head.
Rumors also suggest that the headset could feature 15 cameras as well as 4K micro-OLED displays. It will be powered by two processors that are equivalent to the Apple M-series chips for the Mac. There will also be many other features. The software it will use is called realityOS and was discovered by an Apple app developer a couple of months ago.
Gurman expects the new headset to launch as early as the end of this year, but he also claims that the product will be available to the market sometime in 2023.
The Apple AR/VR headset will be a major new product category from Apple since the release of the Apple Watch back in 2015. It is also expected to cost around $3,000, and rumors suggested that Apple doesn’t expect customers to buy it.
