Apple is Expected to Unveil New Password Management App at WWDC 2024

iPhone Password management

At the upcoming WWDC 2024, Apple is set to introduce a groundbreaking Password app for iOS users. According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this new app will provide users with a comprehensive tool to manage their login credentials across multiple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and more.

Currently, Apple users rely on iCloud Keychain to save and sync passwords. The new Password app will build on this functionality, organizing passwords into specific categories such as accounts, Wi-Fi networks, and passkeys. This enhanced organization aims to streamline password management, making it easier for users to access and secure their information.

The Password app is also expected to extend support to Windows platforms, although there has been no mention of compatibility with Android devices. The app will likely be introduced with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15, and it is anticipated to be compatible with Apple’s Vision Pro as well.

In addition to password management, the app will promote the use of biometric authentication methods like Touch ID and Face ID, encouraging users to adopt these more secure login options where available. The app will also feature autofill capabilities for passwords when logging into websites or apps and will support verification codes, functioning similarly to Google Authenticator by providing two-factor authentication.

WWDC 2024, scheduled from June 10 to 14, is expected to be a significant event for Apple. Alongside the new Password app, Apple is likely to announce major software updates, including iOS 18, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). Reports suggest that Apple plans to collaborate with OpenAI to integrate advanced AI features into its products. This AI integration is expected to be an opt-in service, allowing users to choose whether to enable the new functionalities.
