Apple introduces advanced Clean Up tool in iOS 18.1 beta for enhanced photo editing

Apple Intelligence

Apple has released a new tool called 'Clean Up' in the latest iOS 18.1 beta, enhancing photo editing capabilities within the Photos app. This new tool, symbolized by an eraser icon on the editing toolbar, leverages advanced machine learning to seamlessly remove unwanted elements from photographs.

Whether it's a stray object, shadow, or reflection, Clean Up smartly identifies and eliminates these distractions without affecting the integrity of the people in the image.

The functionality extends beyond automatic detection, allowing users to manually fine-tune edits by zooming in and using their finger as a precision retouch brush. This feature isn't limited to photos taken on iPhones; it's available for any image stored in the Photos library.

Currently accessible to developers in the third beta of iOS 18.1, this tool requires an initial download and setup of the necessary machine learning models upon first use.

The Clean Up feature is also integrated into the latest beta versions of iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, expanding its utility across Apple devices.
