Apple is actively pursuing partnerships with Google and Anthropic, a startup specializing in AI. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that Apple aims to finalize its deal with Google by fall, coinciding with the anticipated public release of Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence is set to debut with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, leveraging both on-device and cloud-based language models. This service promises to answer queries, summarize text, and even generate images using Apple’s proprietary technologies. When Apple Intelligence encounters a question it cannot answer, users will have the option to seek assistance from ChatGPT, provided by OpenAI.
Craig Federighi, Apple's head of software engineering, indicated in a recent interview plans to expand support for various chatbots in the future. This flexibility will allow users to select the chatbot that best suits their needs.
Despite earlier reports indicating discussions with Google to integrate Gemini into Apple's ecosystem, Apple announced at WWDC 2024 that only ChatGPT would be featured initially. However, Bloomberg's latest report reveals ongoing interest from Apple in incorporating Gemini into its platforms.
In addition to Google and Anthropic, Meta also attempted to negotiate bringing its chatbot to Apple Intelligence. However, Apple reportedly declined the proposal, citing disagreements over Meta's privacy policies.
Apple Intelligence is scheduled to launch later this year, initially supporting US English on iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and Mac models equipped with the M1 chip or newer. Apple plans to expand language support gradually over time, enhancing accessibility and functionality for users worldwide.
