Apple, in partnership with the University of California researchers, has launched a new image editing tool called "MGIE." It's an AI model that lets users edit images using simple language commands.
This model, named MLLM-Guided Image Editing, combines text, photos, and videos to understand and follow instructions.
Presented at the International Conference on Learning Representations 2024, MGIE has impressed with its ability to improve image editing metrics while staying efficient.
Users can make various edits, like changing colors or adding/removing parts of an image, just by describing what they want in natural language. MGIE is free and open-source on GitHub, where users can find the code, data, and pre-trained models.
The speed of editing depends on your device's performance, but keep in mind that models like this need a lot of memory.
Apple has been quietly working on AI features, as hinted by recent code in iOS beta versions. Despite some analysts saying Apple is behind in AI compared to Meta, Google, and Microsoft, CEO Tim Cook assures that Apple is investing heavily in AI. He promises exciting AI features in the near future.
