At WWDC, Apple unveiled its latest innovation, Apple Intelligence, a cutting-edge AI experience integrated into macOS 15 Sequoia, iOS 18, and iPadOS 18. This new feature leverages advanced generative AI to personalize and enhance user interactions across all Apple devices.
Apple Intelligence combines generative models with personal context to offer highly relevant and useful insights. Integrated deeply into the Apple ecosystem, this AI can create language and images, perform actions across apps, and draw from personal context to streamline daily tasks. Privacy remains a top priority with Private Cloud Compute, ensuring secure and private AI operations both on-device and through Apple's dedicated silicon servers.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, expressed excitement about this new chapter in Apple innovation, emphasizing that Apple Intelligence will revolutionize how users interact with their devices. The AI’s ability to deliver personalized, secure intelligence sets it apart, helping users accomplish what matters most to them.
Apple Intelligence introduces new systemwide Writing Tools in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, enhancing users’ writing capabilities. Features such as Rewrite, Proofread, and Summarize allow users to refine their text, check grammar and structure, and condense information into digestible formats. These tools are accessible across Mail, Notes, Pages, and compatible third-party apps.
In the Mail app, a new Priority Messages section highlights urgent emails, providing summaries without needing to open each message. Smart Reply offers quick response suggestions, and users can easily view key details in long threads. Priority Notifications ensure important alerts are always visible, with summaries offering a concise view of active conversations. The new Focus mode, Reduce Interruptions, highlights notifications that require immediate attention, like urgent messages.
The Notes and Phone apps benefit from Apple Intelligence’s ability to record, transcribe, and summarize audio. Calls can be recorded with participants notified, and summaries are generated post-call. Image Playground allows users to create images using themes, costumes, and more, which can be shared across Messages, Notes, Keynote, Freeform, and compatible third-party apps.
Apple also introduced Genmoji, enabling users to create personalized emoji based on descriptions or photos. These can be used in messages or as stickers and reactions. In the Photos app, natural language search helps users find specific images and moments in videos. The new Clean Up tool removes background distractions from photos, and Memories lets users craft stories from their photos and videos, complete with music suggestions from Apple Music.
Siri has been upgraded to be more natural, contextually aware, and personal, simplifying everyday tasks. It can maintain context across requests and supports both text and voice interactions. Siri’s new design includes a glowing light that wraps around the screen edge when active, and it can perform actions based on content from various apps.
Apple Intelligence ensures user privacy by processing data on-device whenever possible and utilizing Private Cloud Compute for additional capacity. Independent experts can inspect the server code to ensure security, and devices only communicate with verified servers.
Additionally, Apple has integrated ChatGPT into its ecosystem, allowing users to access its capabilities without switching tools. This integration supports generating content and images, with user consent required before sending any data to ChatGPT. Subscribers can connect their accounts to access premium features directly within Apple’s Writing Tools.
Apple Intelligence and these new features will be available later this year, promising a transformative experience for Apple users.
