At WWDC, Apple introduced macOS 15 Sequoia, the latest version of its Mac operating system, bringing advanced AI capabilities, a new Passwords app, a significant Safari update, and a groundbreaking Continuity feature called iPhone Mirroring.
macOS Sequoia is powered by "Apple Intelligence," a deeply integrated AI experience designed to enhance user interactions across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Leveraging cutting-edge generative AI, Apple Intelligence personalizes and simplifies tasks by understanding and creating language and images, taking actions across apps, and utilizing personal context.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, expressed excitement about the new release, stating, "macOS Sequoia elevates productivity and intelligence with Apple Intelligence, unlocking features that will be a game-changer for Mac users. Enhanced Continuity features, major Safari updates, and new gaming options make this release our most advanced yet."
One of the notable AI features is Image Playground, which allows users to create images in seconds, choosing from styles like Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. Integrated into apps like Messages and available as a standalone app, Image Playground is user-friendly and versatile.
The new iPhone Mirroring feature in Continuity lets users view and control their iPhone directly from their Mac. Users can see their custom wallpapers, swipe through their Home Screen, and use Mac’s keyboard, trackpad, and mouse to interact with their iPhone. Audio also plays through the Mac, and users can drag and drop items between devices seamlessly.
Safari has been enhanced with Highlights, making it easier to discover information on the web. The new Reader mode offers a streamlined view of articles, summaries, and a table of contents for longer reads. Additionally, macOS Sequoia introduces an automatic window tiling feature, maximizing screen real estate and offering new keyboard and menu shortcuts for better organization.
The Presenter Preview feature now includes customizable backgrounds, which can be applied during video calls on FaceTime or third-party apps like Webex. Users can choose from color gradients, system wallpapers, or their own photos.
A new dedicated Passwords app allows users to manage Wi-Fi passwords, app and website passwords, verification codes, and more, with cross-device syncing and autofill capabilities. The Passwords app is also available on Windows through the iCloud for Windows app.
In Photos, the new Memories feature lets users create personalized stories by typing a description. Apple Intelligence selects the best photos and videos, crafts a storyline, and arranges them into a narrative movie. The Clean Up tool can remove distracting objects from photos without altering the main subject.
Other updates include enhanced text effects, emoji and sticker Tapbacks, and message scheduling in Messages, hike and trail routes in Maps, smarter Notes, better Calendar and Reminder integration, and Collections in the Photos app.
macOS 15 Sequoia will be available to the public in the fall, promising to bring a host of powerful new tools and features to Mac users, enhancing their overall experience and productivity.
