Apple announced their new Self Service Repair program which will be available to everyone so they can complete repairs on their own by ordering parts directly from Apple.
Apple will allow its users to finally complete repairs on their own by ordering parts from a new Apple online store dedicated to the self service repair program.
According to the COO of Apple, Jeff Williams, they will launch the new service program in different phases which will start off with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models. They will also only focus on the parts which are serviced more often like display, battery, and camera. Other parts and products like the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, 24-inch iMac, and M1 Mac mini will be available for self service repair next year.
Apple encourages customers who want to repair their devices to go through the manual on their new Apple Online Store to make sure which parts they need for the repair. Customers can also send back their old parts to Apple to recycle them for additional credit.
Apple also encourages users who don’t have experience with technical repairs to get their device repaired at an Apple authorized repair service or third party repair shops.
Apple’s Self Service Repair program will be available early next year to customers in the U.S. and Apple will also expand to new locations further down the road.
